Preparing for the Diploma Programme at Hayah West

As Hayah West continues its journey toward DP authorization, the leadership team is already preparing teachers, parents/guardians and students for the American and IBDP pathway options. During the August in-service schedule, a meeting was held with teachers to introduce both pathways and give an overview of how Hayah’s philosophy in the implementation of both. This was followed by a meeting with grade parents and guardians in which the same information was covered, along with the timeline for choosing the pathways and courses.

Hayah West has also hired a Career Advisor, who will meet individually with all grade 9 students throughout this academic year to begin compiling academic portfolios for each student. These portfolios will help inform the pathway choices students will make in grade 10.

Hayah West will have its DP Consultation visit on May 6-7, 2026. Before the visit, many of our teachers and administrators will attend IB workshops to both meet the IB’s requirements to move on to the authorization phase, as well as to ensure that staff members begin planning for the implementation of the DP well in advance. Hayah West is excited to move toward authorization and to begin implementing the DP in September of 2027.

In order to ensure that Hayah West is authorized and prepared to implement the DP before the Class of 2029 begins grade 11, the school applied for DP candidacy prior to applying for MYP candidacy. Hayah West will apply for MYP candidacy by June of 2026 and by September of 2027, Hayah West will be a fully authorized IB Continuum School.

Sincerely, Peter Vaughn
