From Preparation to Practice: Our First Academic Year in Action

Our first year at GISS has been incredible so far—and we are only halfway through. What began as a carefully planned launch for Kindergarten through Grade 2, with a target enrollment of 30 students, quickly exceeded expectations. Driven by strong parent trust and community demand, enrollment grew to over 120 students, leading us to expand into a full K–8 school. This rapid growth required us to scale thoughtfully, moving from two curriculum frameworks to three—IEYC, IPC, and IMYC—while successfully integrating AERO standards to ensure rigor and alignment. In our first year, GISS also achieved Cognia candidacy, reflecting our commitment to quality and continuous improvement from the outset.

As planning shifted into practice, learning came to life across classrooms. Students participated in meaningful exit points where families could see learning in action and celebrate the hard work taking place across grade levels. These moments strengthened the home–school partnership and reinforced confidence in our academic approach.

Community building has been central to our journey. We hosted engaging Back to School Nights, an epic Spirit Week filled with laughter and connection, and a joyful Halloween parade and celebration. Our Winter Festival welcomed over 400 community members, reflecting the strong sense of belonging growing around GISS. An active and supportive PTA has played a key role in deepening relationships between families and the school.

Even in our first year, we aimed high by hosting the SomaBay Model United Nations, including junior delegates and admin teams made up of our own students. We hold a high bar. Our goal is to develop confident achievers—students who grow through challenge, reflection, and purpose. Supported by dedicated educators and trusting families, GISS continues to grow with momentum, heart, and belief in what education can be.
